Matthew Matt James was conceived in North Carolina, on the 5th December 1991. Matthew Matt James was a mixed-race child of Manny James (of Jamaican descent) along with Patty James. His mother is caucasian while his father is Nigerian. In 2010 he graduated from Sanderson High School and furthered to Wake Forest University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Economics in 2015. James' fame kick-started when he made his on-screen first appearance as a reality show star on The Bachelorette. He was selected in 2020 to be the bachelor for season 25 of The Bachelor, becoming the first African American lead. The season premiered in on the 20th of January in. James is the perfect candidate for the job, as he is well-rounded tall, athletic and has a good sense of humor. Rachael Krokconnell won the competition because James decided to enter into an affair with her. James was paired with dancer Arnold whom was also famous at the time to participate in the 30th season of Dancing with the Stars. James and Arnold finished 12th place.
